Welcome to episode 138 with Dr Raymona Lawrence.

In this episode, I am joined by a highly knowledgeable public health professor, Dr Raymona Lawrence. She shares the importance of her model, in actionable steps that promotes diversity and inclusion in various settings. The ROAR framework she introduces, consists of four crucial elements: Recruitment, Onboarding, Activity, and Retention.

Regarding recruitment, this refers to the importance of addressing unconscious bias, diversifying candidate pools, and avoiding hiring individuals that are like current employees.

What else did we discuss

In terms of onboarding, she emphasises the need for diverse onboarding practices and fostering inclusion beyond the recruitment stage. This includes accommodating different perspectives and backgrounds.

The activity phase focused on promoting employee engagement, accountability, and exceeding expectations. This is to provide exceptional service or products.

In terms of retention, the significance of prioritizing employee and customer satisfaction, was discussed. She feels strongly about creating a culture of inclusion and reducing turnover rates.

Our conclusion summarised the ROAR framework’s significance in promoting diversity and inclusion, urging listeners to apply it for positive outcomes. Additionally, the importance of challenging conformity, tailoring onboarding, and education. That is whilst utilising a framework allowing for individuality, and fostering a positive culture of continuous learning, growth, and improvement.

We further talked about several crucial points that aid an inclusive workspace and environment:

These included: –

  1. Breaking the Cycle of Conformity
  2. Tailoring Onboarding and Education
  3. The Power of a Framework
  4. Fostering a Culture of Inclusion

By implementing these additional points, businesses can further understand the importance of challenging conformity, in order to promote diversity and inclusion effectively.

I found this week’s episode extremely insightful, and I really enjoyed my conversation with Raymona. I hope you also enjoy this week’s episode of The Executive Edge.
