Welcome to Episode 70 of my podcast with Dr Eric Plasker. Eric runs a business as a successful Chiropractor, author, and podcaster. He has written several books and his website is www.the100yearlifestyle.com

I asked Eric back on to the podcast to talk about how we age and if it is all a great big lottery, or do we have any influence on that as an experience. His reply surprised me. Entering his 60th year himself, Dr Plasker looks well and feels incredibly well. His regimen isn’t strict or unacceptable, but he realised a long time ago healthy habits pay off.

What did he teach me?

Eric likes to talk about three things; what he calls Self-care, Health-care and Crisis Care. His 100yearlifestyle.com emphasises that we are all much more in control of our aging process, and health than we think. Small, sensible choices repeated often seem to be the way to get consistent about our health and wellbeing.

Much of our success at this revolves around the choices we make – choices about eating habits, sleep, the way we think and our exercise. Put simply, Eric likes to call it eat, sleep, sweat and think! He also believes it’s about the team we build around us. In his case, using a chiropractor like himself to keep his joints moving and support him. As a Psychologist, I would agree with this and that it involves reviewing and sometimes overhauling, your wider network to see how these different people make you feel.

We all need to feel loved, supported, and nurtured. So, maybe have a think at how often you see friends, family and how much you’re doing in your social life? It all has an effect on how well you feel and often there are simple things we can change, that have a positive impact on life.

Simple things such as planning events, weekends away, and holidays. I put three weeks in my diary every year in spaced out intervals. I don’t need to know where I’m going immediately, but I know the time is in there and that gives me something to start planning, and look forward to!
