Episode 195 of The Executive Edge – the podcast for skills in life and business – welcomes Steve Smith to the show.
Steve is a professional business coach in Orange County, CA.
Steve’s mission, as he says, is:
“to provide an extraordinary coaching experience that helps business professionals develop a keen sense of clarity, confidence and belief about being able to achieve what is most important to them and their organizations.”
On the show, I talk to Steve about what coaching means to him and, perhaps more importantly, the people he works with.
One of things that becomes apparent on the show is how much Steve is interested in the mindset of people who work with him. I was struck by how aware he was by his target audience and the people who typically work with him.
Steve looks for the tough assignments and relishes the challenge, it seems, of developing leaders, and helping management find new ways to be productive and effective.
During our conversation Steve made a really crucial point about how business success doesn’t necessarily come from following your passion.
Steve, for example, loves motorcycles but as he confesses on the show, he has absolutely no interest in working with them.
Instead, Steve talks about needing to figure out what your calling is, what you are really good and the kind of business opportunities that align and support this.
There’s plenty more good stuff in the interview and, as we agree at the end, great business leaders are always willing to learn something new, something different or something more.
Well, there’s plenty to get your teeth into in this episode!
